I know this one might sound too simple, but it is really important in World’s Hardest Game. There are some games out there that you can fly through without much struggle. Some may be surprised to see Sekiro not included in games listed in the number three spot. The truth is, while Sekiro is also a FromSoftware release, it’s not a ‘Souls’ game. While it shares many similarities with Dark Souls, Elden Ring, etc, this is a hard-as-nails single-player-only adventure. In a Souls game, you can summon allies to help you take down a difficult boss, essentially letting them share the load. However, in Sekiro, players either “git good” or they die trying – many times.
I consider myself a very loyal souls fan, I love them, I think Dark souls 1 is probably top 5 games ever made, but it honestly annoys me how people act like souls games invented the idea of difficult games, games have been hard long before souls games, for example Lion King on the old Nintendo was crushing, there is that level where i think monkeys throw you to each other that made me stop playing the game , Another one that comes to mind is CLAW, this one was so difficult that they made a cheat code for it, it was hell of fun though.
Every time I see the Kasparov v Topalov game it reminds me that “yes, Garry was the best ever”. So many of the moves he made were obvious moves that I would have made earlier, but each time he makes a precursor move that strengthens his position. Here he is having his pieces picked off of the table at a furious pace, and yet he has seen the future – he knows – Topalov is beaten. Just an awsome game.
Lots of examples come to mind, like ninja gaiden 2, or that zelda with the water level in it, Another amazing example is actually cuphead, it is really well made, it is so difficult but somehow so fun and i’d even say it is addictive, One more game i struggled with is XCOM 2 even though i cannot actually pinpoint why .
